Nikolai project site not in a flood plain, Sperry reports

The Department of Homeland Security has determined that the site of the AWG's Nikolai project is not in a floodplain, Commanding General William Sperry reports.

The determination clears the way for a building permit to be issued for the project, he said. Homeland Security had jurisdiction over the issue as it is the parent agency over the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The Nikolai project, which pays tribute to the crew of Russian vessel s.v. Nikolai which grounded off the Washington coast in 1808, is expected to be completed by next summer.
